Results & expectations
How quickly will I see results?
Every cat is different, and behavior change is rarely linear (cats love to humble all of us). Some people notice small improvements within days; more complex cases take weeks or longer. The biggest factor is consistency — and making changes your cat can realistically succeed with over time.
Do you guarantee results?
No — and anyone working with cats who does is being a little too confident. What I guarantee is thoughtful guidance, honest communication, and a plan tailored to your cat, your home, and your goals. In my experience, most behavior issues improve significantly with the right approach and consistency.
How I work
What if I've already tried everything?
Honestly, most of my clients feel this way when they reach out. The internet is full of conflicting cat advice, and a lot of it is oversimplified or not tailored to your cat. The biggest benefit of working with a behaviorist is having someone look at the full picture — personality, history, environment, household dynamics, stress, routines. Tiny details often make a huge difference.
What behavior modification methods do you use?
I start with the least invasive, least stressful interventions: environmental changes, routine and stress reduction, enrichment and play, relationship-building, then behavior modification techniques. I tailor the approach to each household — some want a gradual, low-pressure plan; others need more structure right away. There is no one-size-fits-all method with cats (they would unionize against us immediately if there were).
Specific situations
What if my cat is aggressive?
You're very much not alone. I have extensive experience with aggression — fearful cats, undersocialized cats, redirected aggression, and multi-cat conflict. Most aggression is rooted in fear, stress, frustration, or overstimulation, not because your cat is “bad.” Complex aggression cases are typically part of the Harmony Plus plan.
What if my cat has a medical issue?
Behavior and health are deeply connected, so one of the first things I look at is whether something medical is contributing. Cats are famously subtle when they don’t feel well. I may recommend a vet evaluation before or during the process — in particular, a history of urinary issues calls for a urinalysis first.
Will you ever recommend rehoming or euthanasia?
Very rarely. My primary goal is always to keep cats safely in loving homes, and most concerns improve significantly with the right support. But occasionally a cat's quality of life, safety, or household dynamics make those conversations part of the work — always approached with compassion and honesty. Ultimately, every decision is yours.
Logistics
Do you offer in-home consultations?
Yes, for clients in the greater Seattle area. That said, some cats — especially fearful or highly stressed ones — would strongly prefer I stay out of their house, and I respect that. In those cases a virtual consultation is often more effective and less stressful for everyone.
How involved do I need to be?
Very involved — your cat unfortunately cannot attend appointments and implement the plan on their own, despite what they may believe. Real change happens through consistency at home. I guide you, troubleshoot with you, and support you throughout, but your follow-through is one of the biggest predictors of success.
Lifestyle
Do you support outdoor access for cats?
It's more nuanced than people expect. I usually recommend indoor-only because of the real risks — cars, predators, disease, toxins, getting lost. But I'm not automatically anti-outdoor: harness training, a catio, or supervised time can genuinely help some cats. I don't recommend free-roaming, and my goal is to help you make an informed decision, not shame you.
