These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you (the “Client”) and Seattle Cat Herding, a Washington limited liability company (“Seattle Cat Herding,” “we,” “us”). By checking the agreement box at checkout, purchasing a service, booking a consultation, or submitting the intake form, you agree to these Terms, including the Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability in Section 6.
1. Services
Seattle Cat Herding provides cat behavior consulting and training services, including the Behavior Insight Session, The Harmony Plan, The Harmony Plus Plan, and initial consultations, as described on our Services page at the time of purchase. Services may be delivered in-home (within our standard service area, roughly 30 miles of Seattle) or virtually.
The specific services included in your package are those described on the Services page and at checkout when you purchase. Prices are as listed at checkout.
2. Nature of Behavior Services — No Guarantee of Results
Cat behavior work is a collaborative process, and outcomes depend heavily on factors outside our control — including your cat's health, history, and temperament, your household environment, and your consistency in implementing the behavior plan.
We do not guarantee any particular behavioral outcome. What we provide is professional assessment, a plan tailored to your cat and household, and ongoing guidance. Improvement timelines vary; some issues improve in days, others take months, and some behaviors may not fully resolve.
Seattle Cat Herding does not provide veterinary care, medical diagnosis, or medical treatment. Behavior issues frequently have medical components, and we may require a veterinary evaluation (for example, a urinalysis for litter box issues) before or during behavior work. Nothing we provide is a substitute for veterinary care.
3. Client Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Provide complete and accurate information about your cat(s), including health status, vaccination status, and any known history of biting, scratching, or aggression toward people or animals — disclosed before the first session;
- Maintain current rabies vaccination for each cat participating in services, unless a licensed veterinarian has documented an exemption;
- Follow reasonable safety instructions during sessions, including managing your cat and other pets as we direct;
- Implement the behavior plan between sessions — follow-through at home is a core part of the service;
- Provide a reasonably safe environment for in-home visits.
We may pause or discontinue in-home services if conditions are unsafe for you, your cat, or our staff. In that case we will offer virtual alternatives where practical.
4. Payment, Scheduling, and Cancellation
Payment is due at booking or as specified at checkout. The initial consultation fee is applied toward your package if you enroll, as described on the Services page.
Cancellation and rescheduling:
- With 24 hours' notice or more, you may reschedule at no charge.
- With less than 24 hours' notice, the session is billed at 50%.
- No-shows are billed in full.
Life happens — if something comes up, let us know as early as you can and we will do our best to work with you.
Except as required by law, package fees are non-refundable once services have begun; unused portions of a package may be handled case-by-case at our discretion.
5. Ongoing Support
Packages that include “support for the life of your cat” mean continued availability for questions and check-ins by message regarding the behavior concerns addressed in your package, at a reasonable cadence. This does not include additional in-home or scheduled sessions beyond those in your package, which may be purchased separately.
6. ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
This section limits our liability and affects your legal rights.
a. Inherent risk. You understand and acknowledge that working with cats involves inherent risks that cannot be eliminated even with professional care, including bites, scratches, transmission of zoonotic disease, property damage, and unpredictable animal behavior. Cats — including cats undergoing behavior modification — can act suddenly and without warning. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with the services, whether during sessions (in-home or virtual) or while implementing the behavior plan between sessions.
b. Release. To the fullest extent permitted by Washington law, you, on behalf of yourself and your household members, release, waive, and discharge Seattle Cat Herding, its owner, and its employees and contractors from any and all claims, demands, or causes of action arising out of or related to the services, including claims based on ordinary negligence. This release does not extend to gross negligence or intentional misconduct, and nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
c. Your cat's actions. You remain the owner and legal custodian of your cat at all times, including during sessions. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Seattle Cat Herding from claims by third parties arising from your cat's behavior, including injury to persons or animals or damage to property, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or intentional misconduct.
d. Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Seattle Cat Herding's total liability arising out of or related to the services shall not exceed the total fees you paid for the package or session giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
e. Veterinary costs. You are responsible for all veterinary costs for your cat, including any injury or illness that arises during or after the service period, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or intentional misconduct.
7. Photos, Stories, and Media
We love sharing success stories. You grant Seattle Cat Herding permission to use photos and videos of your cat, and anonymized descriptions of your cat's case, in our Field Notes blog, website, and marketing materials. We will not publish your name, your likeness, or personally identifying details without your separate consent.
You may opt out at any time — just email rachel@seattlecatherding.com and we will not publish (or will remove, where feasible) material featuring your cat.
8. Privacy
Intake form responses, session notes, and message history are used to provide the services and are not sold to third parties.
9. General Terms
Governing law and venue. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington. Any dispute shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Small-claims matters may be brought in the appropriate small claims court.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the service descriptions at checkout, are the entire agreement between you and Seattle Cat Herding regarding the services, and supersede prior discussions.
Changes. We may update these Terms from time to time. The version in effect when you purchase governs that purchase. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
